Player Handbook for the USS Charleston
Prospective applicants to the USS Charleston will be accepted or denied based on the following:
- 1) A fully completed application. Applicants who turn in a half-done or unacceptably brief (e.g. a sentence or two long for the writing sample or important biography sections) application will not be accepted. A few paragraphs constitute an acceptable length(A paragraph contains at least 4 seven or more word sentences.) Biographical information is not permanent, and may be changed upon request.
- 2) Prospective applicants must demonstrate a minimum proficiency to write in a manner that is comprehensible. ( e. g. Applicants will want to double-check their spelling and grammar.) Players must show a minimum profficiency in writing the English language (as such applicants shall wish to rephrain from using unconventional spellings and abbreviations.) Leeway will be given to applicans whose native langauge is not English (E.G. mispelling of difficult words and misusing confusing words such as their, there, they're, ect...)
Players, may however write some things in other languages if it will add to the storyline in some manner or it is just a single word or phrase (please note that rules on rating still apply, I can use a translator).
- 3) Players must be 16 year of age OR request special permission from mewto47491@aol.com to join. Content may not be suitable for people under such an age as there is the possibility of mature ideas. Special permission will always be granted to worthy individuals.
- 4) Players applying for senior staff positions must be prepared to check their e-mail, and post at least once a week. Players who will be unable to post once a week should apply for junior staff positions. Junior staff must post at least once every two weeks.
- 5) E-mail Captain Matsurono if you desire to apply for a position not already present on the USS Charleston manifest. All reasonable requests will be granted. The exception is intelligence. The USS Charleston will not be making use of intelligence or black-ops in our sim. Apply for a strategic ops position or a marine.
- 6) Prospective applicants should read the entire player handbook prior to applying.
- 1) Practice active respect toward all players and their ideas. Though disagreement between players is inevitable, disrespect should never result from it. Breakage shall result in immediate disciplinary action by appropriate authority.
- 2) Do not kill or extensivly use another player's PC or NPC without their expressed consent, or destroy the USS Charleston or other vessels.
- 3) Do not post X-rated material. Although it is perfectly acceptable to describe the feeling of love/attraction, or suggest that a character and their spouse/lover/et al may fall into each others arms behind closed doors, any material that describes the process of a sexual act (beyond kissing/hugging) is strictly prohibited. Breakage shall be grounds for immediate expulsion
as determined by the CO and XO.
- 4) Do not post bizarre, unreasonable, or random material to the list. "Chain E-mails" and spam should never be sent to the list. OOC messages should not advertise for any product or other simulation. The sending of spam to the list shall be reason for disciplinary action. Players who intentionally send viruses to the list or other players will be banned, traced, and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
- 5) If you encounter a problem with another player aboard the USS Charleston, either e-mail them privately or send your concerns to the CO. DO NOT send your grievances in any format to the list!
- 6) DO write. BE creative. ENJOY the USS Charleston.
The Charleston functions as a Play-by-Email ((PBeM)) over the yahoofroups mailing list service. All aplicants should make sure
they may receive email from this source.
The CO may remove/ban any player character and modify/repeal any post on the USS Charleston. These rights are harnessed by the CO in good faith, that he will explore all other possible options before implementing them. All other CO rights not expressed in this document are not necessarily denied.
The XO may petition the CO to remove/ban/repeal members and posts, inherits all CO rights while the CO is on LOA, and is a junior moderator on the USS Charleston mailing list. Players are encouraged to forward their questions or problems regarding USS Charleston simulation to the XO (who will forward them to the CO if they are beyond his/her capacity). The clear abuse of any of these powers by the XO will be strictly reprimanded.
All members of the USS Charleston have the right to contribute to the USS Charleston simulation, and to have all reasonable needs heard and met. Members may request and take a LOA (leave of absence) at any time, though this right should not be used extensively or for unreasonable amounts of time. Members may ask to leave the USS Charleston at any time.
Rank is used exclusively as an in-character tool aboard the USS Charleston as per BravoFleet regulations. All members are equals out of character ((whith the exception of administrative duties as harnessed by the CO and XO harnessed in good faith and whose misuse is punishable). Members may not use rank to 'boss' other members around, or in similar inappropriate ways.
The chain of command defines the level of IN CHARACTER authority one character of the USS Charleston has over another. The chain always flows from CO, to XO, to department heads, to department members. All department heads are equal in their authority as senior staff members regardless of rank. Junior staff members are subordinate to senior staff members regardless of rank.
A character is given their initial (starting) rank based on their wishes, desired position, and their relative ranking to others in the given department and BravoFleet regulations. Players will be offered promotions by the CO. Players may ask the CO for a promotion if they desire one if it is reasonable. A player will not be promoted more then once every 3 months.
If there are questions or other concerns regarding this document, please send them to Captain Matsurono
